A key component of the Australian Government’s National Health Reforms is the establishment of a new nation-wide network of 62 Medicare Locals.
Medicare Locals have been established to better coordinate primary health care services for local communities by identifying local health care needs, working to address any service gaps and making it easier for patients to access the services they need.
Tasmania Medicare Local (TML) Limited is among the first 19 Medicare Locals to be established in Australia in 2011 with the remainder to be operational in the first half of 2012.
TML is evolving from the former General Practice Tasmania Network that comprised three local Divisions of General Practice: General Practice South, General Practice North and General Practice North West, together with General Practice Tasmania Ltd.
